Severin Grigory Yuryevich

Severin Grigory Yuryevich, born on February 10, 1977. Political activist, until 2019 worked as a teacher at Voronezh State University, from where he was fired due to his protest activities. Has a minor child in his care. On charges of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls to commit extremist activities using the Internet", up to 5 years' imprisonment) and Article 319 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public insult to a government official in the performance of his official duties", up to 1 year of correctional labor), he was sentenced to 2 years in a penal colony. Was under a ban on certain actions from February 26, 2021; in a pre-trial detention center from June 28 to August 17, 2021; under house arrest until February 2, 2021, when he was released again under a ban on certain actions. He was taken into custody on August 22, 2022. He was released after serving his sentence on August 4, 2023, but after several attempts, the Voronezh Central District Court returned him to the penal colony on July 19, 2024 to serve out his 84 days due to the fact that the first instance incorrectly counted his time under house arrest. He was released in September 2024.

On April 22, 2025, he was detained again and charged under Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation", up to 5 years in prison) due to conversations he had with other prisoners in August 2024, while serving a sentence in a case of calls for extremism, and was taken into custody the next day. Deprived of liberty since April 22, 2025.
