Tushkanov Nikita Alekseevich

Tushkanov Nikita Alekseevich, born April 24, 1994, resident of the city of Mikun in the Komi Republic. A historian by profession, he taught at school. Due to a solitary picket in defense of freedom of speech in the winter of 2021, Tushkanov was fired, after which he earned money by giving private lessons.

On charges of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 205.2 ("Public justification or propaganda of terrorism using the Internet", liable to up to seven years in prison) and Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation", liable to up to three years in prison), he was sentenced to 5.5 years in a general regime penal colony. The appellate court changed the sentence to 5 years in a general regime penal colony with a 150,000 roubles fine. On March 12, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation upheld the sentence.

He was held in custody from December 7, 2022 to September 25, 2023, and was deprived of his liberty.
