He was reportedly taken prisoner in Mariupol on 18 May 2022. In April 2026, it became known that Khai had been sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Participation in a terrorist community') and Article 205.3 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity'). In May 2026, he was released as part of a prisoner exchange.
