In February 2024, after the occupation, he accepted Russian citizenship. According to the prosecution, he sent 500 hryvnias, equivalent to 1,152 rubles, to accounts linked to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Podhorskyi was charged with high treason against Russia. The court sentenced him to 14 years in a strict-regime penal colony.
