He was reportedly taken prisoner in the spring of 2022. On 29 July 2022, he was held in the penal colony in Olenivka, Donetsk region, where he was wounded. On 8 October 2024, Romanov’s case was referred to the Southern District Military Court. On 3 December 2024, Judge Ilya Bezgub found Romanov guilty under the articles on undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity and participation in a terrorist community and sentenced him to a term of imprisonment that has not been disclosed.
