Among those recognised as political prisoners are a disparate group of individuals: from a metallurgist and an electromechanic prosecuted under terrorism charges to a nuclear physicist and a regional official accused of financing Ukraine\u2019s armed forces.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrii Seriozhenko<\/strong><\/a>, an electromechanic from the occupied town of Hola Prystan in Ukraine\u2019s Kherson Oblast, was abducted by Russian security forces in June 2022. His whereabouts remained unknown for over a year. In February 2024, he was formally charged with aiding an act of international terrorism and handling explosives, accused of assisting in a failed attempt on a collaborationist official. He allegedly drove the perpetrator to the site of the explosion and then drove him away afterwards. In May 2025, he was sentenced to 17 years\u2019 imprisonment. A co-defendant, Oleh Pronko, died during the investigation in unclear circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oleksandr Kozhedub<\/strong><\/a>, also from Hola Prystan, was detained in August 2023. Following a series of repeated administrative arrests, he was charged with treason over a transfer of approximately 5,000 roubles in support of Ukraine\u2019s armed forces. In October 2024, he was sentenced to 12 years in a high-security penal colony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snizhana Yakunina<\/strong><\/a>, from Enerhodar in the occupied part of Ukraine\u2019s Zaporizhzhia Oblast, was similarly convicted of treason for transfers totalling around 7,000 roubles to Ukrainian volunteers and servicemen. Detained in April 2025, she was sentenced five months later to 14 years in a general-regime colony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vladimir Litvinov<\/strong><\/a>, born in Ukraine but residing in Kaliningrad and employed by the regional government, is also being prosecuted over donations. Initially placed under administrative arrest in August 2025 on minor charges, he was subsequently accused of financing terrorism for transfers to the Russian Volunteer Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruslan Shadiev<\/strong><\/a>, a nuclear physicist from Sarov in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, has been prosecuted on charges of both treason and financing terrorism. He was accused of transferring cryptocurrency worth 1,200 roubles to the Freedom of Russia Legion, the Russian Volunteer Corps, and the \u2018Get Lost\u2019 project. In January 2025, he was sentenced to 18 years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aleksandr Bratakhin<\/strong><\/a>, a metallurgist from Cherepovets in Vologda Oblast, was prosecuted for \u2018justifying terrorism\u2019 over social media comments critical of the war and the authorities. For three posts on VK, he was sentenced in October 2025 to three years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniil Zinkovsky<\/strong><\/a>, from Leningradskaya in Russia\u2019s Krasnodar Krai, was detained in August 2023. After a month of repeated administrative arrests, he was charged with preparing to commit treason, accused of intending to join the Russian Volunteer Corps. Surveillance had begun months earlier following his public opposition to the war. In April 2024, he was sentenced to seven years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most unusual case is that of Mark Davydov<\/strong><\/a>. Although he lived in occupied Crimea, his prosecution relates not to Ukraine but to alleged involvement with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Syria. Arrested in 2019, he was accused of assisting in fundraising for the group, intending to donate his savings, and planning to join it. In September 2022, he was sentenced to 17 years\u2019 imprisonment for aiding and preparing to finance terrorism, as well as for preparing to join an illegal armed formation, despite the court failing to establish that he had concrete plans to do so. At the time of his arrest, the organisation had not been designated a terrorist organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
