Oscar Charles Agustus Jenkins is an Australian citizen with a biomedical background and previously worked as a college teacher in China. From March 2024, he served in the 402nd Separate Rifle Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On December 21 of that year, he was captured near Makiivka. The publication of a video of his interrogation sparked an international outcry, and the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially demanded that Russia respect his rights as a prisoner of war. Russia offered to exchange him for Russians arrested in Australia on suspicion of espionage. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison on charges of mercenarism.
