James Scott Rhys Anderson is a British citizen, a former member of the Royal Corps of Signals, and a former boxer. He previously worked in the police. In the spring of 2024, he signed a contract with the International Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, served as an instructor, and then participated in an operation in the Kursk region. On November 23, 2024, Anderson was surrounded in the Sudzhansky district and captured. Russian pro-Kremlin media widely distributed videos of his interrogations for propaganda purposes. A closed trial sentenced the soldier to 19 years in prison on charges of mercenarism and committing a terrorist act by an organized group.
