Armen Balyan is an Armenian citizen who arrived in Ukraine via Moldova in November 2022 and joined the 124th Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to unconfirmed reports, he served as a sniper and sustained several wounds and a concussion in the Kherson region, after which he fled the combat zone. In August 2024, Russia placed him on the wanted list, and in October, he was reportedly detained at border control at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport. Balyan admitted his guilt during the investigation. He was sentenced to 12 years in a maximum-security penal colony and ordered to forfeit the money he received from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
