Chagan Aleksandr Vladimirovich, born August 6, 1971, and lives in Tolyatti. On February 29, 2024, he was charged with committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Organizing the activities of an extremist organisation") in connection with his membership in a community of Jehovah's Witnesses banned in Russia. He was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony. On May 16, 2024, the appellate court upheld the sentence. He was under a written undertaking not to leave from September 23, 2022 to February 29, 2024, when he was taken into custody.
