Valerii Chuba is a citizen of Ukraine and a serviceman of the Azov Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was reportedly taken prisoner on 13 May 2022.
On 27 November 2025, Chub's case was referred to the Southern District Military Court. On 2 March 2026, Judge Konstantin Prostov found Chub guilty under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Participation in a terrorist community') and Article 205.3 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity') and sentenced him to a term of imprisonment that has not been disclosed.
