Hayden William Davies is a British citizen who served in the British Army for 13 years, where he specialized in Javelin anti-tank missiles. In August 2024, he arrived in Ukraine and signed a contract with the Foreign Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In December 2024, he was captured near Toretsk, after which videos of him criticizing the Ukrainian Armed Forces were broadcast by Russian state media. The British Foreign Office officially recognized him as a prisoner of war and condemned the trial. In December 2025, a court sentenced Hayden to 13 years in a maximum-security prison for mercenarism. In May 2026, the Court of Appeal increased the sentence, sentencing the soldier to 15 years; a second charge, illegal arms trafficking, was added to the charge.
