Gafarov Dzhemil Abdullaevich was born on 31 May 1962, a resident of the village of Strohonivka, Simferopol district (Crimea).

On 11 January 2023 he was sentenced under part 2 of article 205.5 of the Russian Criminal Code (‘Participation in the activities of a terrorist organisation’), part 1 of article 30 and article 278 of the Russian Criminal Code (‘Preparation for violent seizure of power’) to 13 years' imprisonment, of which the first 2 years to be spent in prison and the rest in a strict regime penal colony, with restriction of liberty for 1 year upon release. The court of appeal left the sentence unchanged.

He had been in custody since 27 March 2019.

Died in the pre-trial detention centre on 10 February 2023.
