Mykola Haiduk is a native of Konotop, Ukraine, a resident of Hamburg, and a German citizen. In Ukraine, he worked as a history teacher, and after moving to Germany in 1992, as a construction worker and later as a driver. On November 15, 2024, he was detained at the entrance to the Kaliningrad region and then placed in pretrial detention. Gaiduk is charged with the illegal movement and storage of explosives, the illegal movement of explosives and explosive devices by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, and a terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy in connection with the explosion of a gas pipeline in Kaliningrad in March 2024. The criminal charges are based on a bottle allegedly found in his car (according to Gaiduk, it was planted on him) and a confession made under torture in the first days after his arrest.
