Under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organisation of the activities of a religious organisation, in respect of which a decision has been made to liquidate in connection with the implementation of extremist activities") in connection with membership in the community of Jehovah's Witnesses banned in Russia, he was sentenced to 6.5 years in a general regime penal colony with restriction of freedom after release for a period of 1 year.
