On charges of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organisation of the activities of an extremist organisation") and Part 1 of Article 282.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Financing of extremist activities") in connection with membership in a community of Jehovah's Witnesses banned in Russia, he was sentenced to 6 years and 1 month of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony. On February 9, 2024, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Tatarstan upheld the sentence.
