He was charged under Part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; in January 2020, the charge was reclassified to organizing this crime under Part 3 of Article 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("organisation of violence dangerous to the life or health of government officials in connection with the performance of their official duties"). He is also charged under Part 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Sentenced to 8 years in a general regime penal colony. The appellate court upheld the sentence.
He has been in custody since April 3, 2019. On February 4, 2025 he was released.
