On 24 July 2024 he was sentenced to 2 years of compulsory work under part 2 of article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation in the activities of an extremist organisation") in connection with membership in the community of Jehovah's Witnesses banned in Russia. In October 2024, the appeal court upheld the sentence.
