Kolker Dmitry Borisovich, born on 7 June 1968, lived in Novosibirsk and suffered from stage IV pancreatic cancer. He was a physicist, specialist in laser physics, nonlinear optics and spectroscopy, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, head of the Laboratory of Quantum Optical Technologies at Novosibirsk State University, and professor at Novosibirsk State Technical University.

On 30 June 2022, he was taken into custody on suspicion of committing a crime under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (‘High treason’, up to 20 years' imprisonment), transferred to Moscow, where he died on the night of 2 to 3 July 2022.
