Roman Kolomiitsev is a citizen of Ukraine and a serviceman of the Azov Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was taken prisoner in Mariupol in May 2022.

On 27 March 2026, Kolomiitsev's case was referred to the Southern District Military Court. On 17 April 2026, Judge Igor Degtyaryov found him guilty under the articles on participation in a terrorist community and undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity, sentencing him to 18 years' imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Kolomiitsev joined the Azov Regiment in the winter of 2015, underwent military training, and, 'while serving as a senior dog handler in a canine platoon and as an artillery gunner, took part in combat operations against the civilian population of the Donetsk People's Republic and servicemen of the Russian Federation.'
