Pavlo Korostelov, a serviceman of the Azov Separate Special Purpose Detachment of the National Guard of Ukraine, was taken prisoner in Mariupol, reportedly in March 2022.

On 3 December 2025, Korostelov’s case was referred to the Southern District Military Court. On 2 March 2026, Judge Ilya Nikolayevich Bezgub found him guilty under the articles on undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity and participation in a terrorist community and sentenced him to a term of imprisonment that has not been disclosed. The defence appealed the verdict.

On 20 March 2026, Korostelov was added to the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service’s list of extremists and terrorists.
