Ivan Kozyrod is a citizen of Ukraine and a serviceman of the Azov Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was reportedly taken prisoner in Mariupol on 20 May 2022.
On 13 January 2026, Kozyrod's case was referred to the Central District Military Court. On 2 February 2026, Judge Andrei Slepukhin found Kozyrod guilty under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Participation in a terrorist community') and Article 205.3 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity') and sentenced him to a term of imprisonment that has not been disclosed.
