Manukyan was soon detained and sentenced to two consecutive administrative arrests, then sent to pretrial detention on charges of attempted sabotage—arson aimed at undermining the economic security and defense capability of the Russian Federation. Manukyan denied any such intentions. The court sentenced him to 9 years. In January 2026, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation overturned the sentence and remanded the case for a new trial.
