Arsen Shaginyan entered into a Telegram conversation with an unknown user who offered to set fire to a railway relay cabinet for a fee. Shaginyan recruited his acquaintance, Agop Manukyan, and on the night of December 10, 2023, they attempted to set the cabinet on fire but were unable to force the door open. The following night, Shaginyan, with the help of another acquaintance, Arkadiy Kerselyan, managed to set the same cabinet on fire. All three were soon detained; Shaginyan, due to illness, was placed under house arrest rather than a pretrial detention center. He was sentenced to 12 years on charges of sabotage and taken into custody in the courtroom. In January 2026, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation overturned the verdict and remanded the case for a new trial.
