Shaygalimov Rim Karimovich was born on 24 February 1957, lived in Krasnoyarsk, former singer and opera actor, winner of several opera singing competitions, including international. From 1990 to 1996 he organised his own company ‘Virtuosi Irkutsk’ and gave concerts. He was a member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (he was threatened to be expelled or had been expelled from this party), a member of the political council of the Other Russia coalition, and a former candidate for the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the list of the Other Russia. He was going to participate in the elections to the Legislative Assembly of the united region, so he considered his first arrest as an attempt by the local authorities to prevent this.

He was sentenced under parts 1 and 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code ("Use of violence against a representative of the authorities") to 5.5 years' imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony.

On 27 June 2009, Rim Shaygalimov died in custody.
