Nikita Sukhorukov was a student at the Ural Pedagogical University, worked at Rostelecom, and was also a summer camp counselor. His acquaintance, Danil Yeliseyev, to whom Nikita owed 10,000 rubles, suggested he set fire to relay cabinets to earn money to repay the debt. Sukhorukov agreed and arrived at the scene on September 4, 2023, with tools and solvent. However, finding the cabinets locked, he did not attempt to break them open and was soon detained by traffic police a kilometer and a half from the station. In court, Sukhorukov alleged torture and threats by security forces, but the Investigative Committee refused to open a case. The court sentenced Nikita to 7 years in a maximum-security colony for plotting a terrorist attack by an organized group.
