On June 20, 2023, he was sentenced under Part 1.1 of Article 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Involvement in the activities of an extremist organisation") and Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Participation in the activities of an extremist organisation") in connection with his involvement in the local community of Jehovah's Witnesses to 6 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony with restriction of freedom for a term of 1 year and 6 months upon release. On May 7, 2024, the court upheld the sentence on appeal.
