Zaurbek Tavitov, a Jehovah's Witness from Vladikavkaz, and his wife Zarema Tavitova were detained on 10 July 2026. On the same day, security officers carried out a series of searches at the homes of local Jehovah's Witnesses and questioned 16 people.

On 12 July, the court placed the couple under house arrest in connection with a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Participation in the activities of an extremist organisation').
