Illia Tryshchenko is a citizen of Ukraine and a serviceman of the Azov Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He has reportedly been held in captivity since April 2022.
On 9 October 2025, Illia Tryshchenko was added to the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service's list of extremists and terrorists.
On 27 November 2025, Tryshchenko's case was referred to the Southern District Military Court. On 27 February 2026, Judge Denis Stepanov found Tryshchenko guilty under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Participation in a terrorist community') and Article 205.3 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity') and sentenced him to a term of imprisonment that has not been disclosed.
