Mikhail Nikolaevich Veselov was born on 18 December 1968, lived in Voronezh, worked as a construction worker, and was a refugee from the conflict zone in Donbas. On 21 November 2025, he was convicted under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code (‘Organisation of the activities of an extremist organisation’) in connection with his involvement in the local Jehovah’s Witnesses community and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony. He was taken into custody following the verdict.

He had previously been held in custody from 13 July 2020 and was released on 2 December 2020 under a ban on certain actions.
