Artem Zubov is a citizen of Ukraine and a resident of Mariupol. He served as a soldier in the Azov Special Purpose Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was reportedly taken prisoner on 18 May 2022. On 29 July 2022, he was held in the penal colony at Olenivka in the Donetsk region, where he was wounded.

On 4 December 2025, Zubov's case was referred to the Southern District Military Court. On 15 January 2026, Judge Nikolai Vasilchuk found Artem Zubov guilty under Article 205.3 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity') and Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Participation in a terrorist community') and sentenced him to 17 years' imprisonment.

On 28 April 2026, the Military Court of Appeal upheld the sentence.
