Crimean resident Halyna Dovhopola suffers stroke in Russian penal colony

Halyna Dovhopola, a 71-year-old resident of Sevastopol, has suffered a stroke in a Russian penal colony. The news was reported by Vladyslav Yesypenko, a Krym.Realii journalist and former political prisoner.

‘She was kept in hospital for a short time and returned to the colony on 5 July. She is unable to move independently and requires a wheelchair,’ he wrote.

In May, Vladyslav Yesypenko reported that Halyna Dovhopola urgently needed a hip replacement because of coxarthrosis. It had already been known since 2025 that she had difficulty moving even with the aid of a walking stick.

Halyna Dovhopola was detained in 2019 and sentenced in 2021 to twelve years in a penal colony for treason under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code. She was accused of gathering information about a separate aviation regiment of the Black Sea Fleet on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence.
