Dmitry Salikhov is a political prisoner
An entrepreneur from Vladivostok was sentenced to two years in prison over a WhatsApp status
In 2023, Dmitry Salikhov from Vladivostok came across a YouTube announcement of a fundraising campaign for one of the brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). He took a screenshot of the text shown in the video and posted it as his WhatsApp Status. Anyone who had Salikhov’s phone number in their contacts could view the status.
One of Salikhov’s acquaintances reported him to the law enforcement authorities. His testimony became the basis for the criminal case, and he later served as the prosecution’s key witness.
Salikhov was detained in late August or early September 2024 and charged with publicly calling for activities directed against the security of the state (Article 280.4 of the Russian Criminal Code). On 16 April 2025, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
