Kherson resident, 55, jailed for 12 years on treason charges

A Russian-installed court has sentenced Natalia Povetkina, a 55-year-old resident of the Kherson region, to 12 years in a general-regime penal colony for high treason. Alongside the custodial sentence, Natalia Povetkina was ordered to pay a 100,000-rouble fine and will face a further year of restricted liberty upon her release.

The prosecution’s case rested on allegations that, in early May 2023, Natalia Povetkina monitored Russian military personnel and hardware within the Skadovsk district. It was claimed she subsequently transmitted this intelligence to the Ukrainian security services.
