St. Petersburg resident Bogdan Bondarev was accused of setting fire to a railway signal cabinet in February 2024. Investigators initially classified his actions as a terrorist attack. Following his arrest, Bondarev told law enforcement that he had acted on instructions from the Freedom of Russia Legion; for the group, he had also conducted surveillance on defense industry facilities—specifically the Nevsky Mazut plant—and produced 16 anti-Putin leaflets. The charges were later reclassified: the terrorism charge was replaced with a charge of sabotage, and additional counts of high treason and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization were added. The court sentenced Bondarev to 14 years in prison.
