Igor Gerter is a former firefighter from the city of Langepas in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and the father of a young daughter. While serving a prison sentence for trafficking potent substances, he signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense to later surrender to Ukraine. He is accused of preparing to join the Russian Volunteer Corps, a terrorist organization recognized in the Russian Federation, and of inciting another former convict to join the same organization. Gerter's arrest was officially recorded on June 17, 2024, but in reality, he was detained in April and held in a basement for over two months in inhumane conditions and subjected to torture. Gerter admitted his guilt and agreed to a staged trial to fabricate evidence against him. He faces up to life in prison.
