Andrii Koshelenko is a citizen of Ukraine and a serviceman of the Azov Special Operations Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He has been in captivity, reportedly, since May 17, 2022.

On May 15, 2024, Andrii Koshelenko was added to the list of extremists and terrorists maintained by Russia’s Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring).

On July 5, 2024, the case against Koshelenko was transferred to the Southern District Military Court. On August 15, 2024, Judge Sergey Gorelov found Koshelenko guilty under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code (“Participation in a terrorist community”) and Article 205.3 of the Russian Criminal Code (“Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities”) and sentenced him to 18 years in prison.

On April 28, 2025, the Military Court of Appeal upheld the sentence.
