Article of the Criminal Code:

Kynev Aleksandr Vladimirovich

Political scientist Aleksandr Kynev was remanded in custody on charges of illegal production, sale, or distribution of drugs on a large scale. Several days after his detention, it became known that Kynev had been hospitalised at the hospital attached to the pre-trial detention centre after being diagnosed with two fractures of the lower-leg bones. According to anonymous sources at the medical unit of the Moscow Federal Penitentiary Service, the fractures were the result of torture.

Inclusion of individuals in the list of persons subject to criminal prosecution in cases where there are likely to be signs of political motivation and serious violations of the law does not mean that they are recognised as political prisoners.
