Political scientist Aleksandr Kynev diagnosed with two leg fractures after detention

Political scientist Aleksandr Kynev has been diagnosed with two fractures to his lower leg following his detention, the Telegram channel Slovo Zashchite reports.

Aleksandr Kynev has been admitted to the hospital at Matrosskaya Tishina remand prison. His leg has been placed in a plaster cast, and his condition is described as moderate. According to Slovo Zashchite, the information came from anonymous sources in the medical unit of the Moscow directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN). The channel says the fractures are the result of torture.

Aleksandr Kynev was detained on 24 September and remanded in custody the following day on a charge of illegal production, sale or distribution of narcotic drugs on a large scale (Article 228.1, Part 4(d) of the Russian Criminal Code). He denies the charge.

Aleksandr Kynev specialises in the organisation of political power in Russia’s regions and is an expert on Russian elections. He has actively monitored and commented on violations of electoral law. He was designated a ‘foreign agent’ in early 2026.
