Aleksey Marfin is a resident of Kirov. He is in a common-law marriage and is raising his wife's two minor children. Marfin has been repeatedly persecuted for his anti-war comments on the social media platform VK, in which he criticized the Kremlin's policies and the actions of the Russian army. He was initially given administrative penalties, and in January 2025, he was sentenced to a large fine in a criminal case for justifying terrorism. Soon, a new case was opened against him – for "fakes" about the Russian Armed Forces and insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland – due to posts about the events in Bucha and Mariupol, and the deaths of soldiers. The court sentenced him to five years and six months in prison; immediately after the verdict, Marfin was taken into custody. The appellate court increased the sentence to six years.
