Yelena Mironova, a resident of Chelyabinsk, was charged under the articles concerning participation in and financing the activities of an extremist organisation in connection with her membership in a community of Jehovah's Witnesses banned in Russia.
According to the prosecution, 'motivated by extremist views, which were expressed in promoting the superiority of followers of the religious teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses over people professing other religions, she negatively assessed people who were not followers of Jehovah's Witnesses, encouraged the severing of family and kinship ties with them, called for refusing medical intervention, including in emergency situations to avert a threat to human life, and urged the non-recognition of the authority of state and local government bodies.'
The court sentenced Mironova to 4 years' imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony.
