Mikhail Mungalov, a Krasnodar resident and a veteran of the Syrian war, worked as a salesperson at the Magnit store. He was accused of setting fire to a relay box due to dissatisfaction with invasion of Ukraine. He claims he acted under blackmail from an unknown person, who threatened to inform security forces that Mungalov had transferred money to the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK). Mungalov was initially sentenced to 12 years for sabotage resulting in significant property damage, but on appeal, the case was reclassified as simple sabotage and his sentence was reduced by two years. One month was added to his sentence for the unserved portion of the theft charge.
