Danylo Skliarov is a citizen of Ukraine, a senior sergeant and serviceman of the "Azov" special forces brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. He was taken prisoner in Mariupol in May 2022.

In March 2026, Skliarov's case was transferred to the Southern District Military Court. On April 9, 2026, Skliarov was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Participation in a terrorist community") and Article 205.3 ("Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity"), and sentenced to 18 years in a strict-regime penal colony.

According to the prosecution's account, "in November 2020 Skliarov voluntarily joined the 'Azov' regiment, where he underwent training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity. After that, serving as a gunner in a tank crew, he took part in the armed conflict."
