Vitalii Serhiiovych Smal was born on September 19, 1982. He is a citizen of Ukraine, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a prisoner of war.
On November 27, 2024, he was sentenced under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Participation in a terrorist community") and Article 205.3 ("Training for terrorist activities") to imprisonment. The length of the sentence is unknown.
On July 4, 2025, he was released as part of a prisoner exchange.
