Smyshlyaev Maksim Nikolaevich, born December 22, 1982, resident of Rostov-on-Don, left-wing views, at the time of his arrest worked at a McDonald's restaurant, was a sixth-year correspondence student at the Institute of History and International Relations of the Southern Federal University. Sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime penal colony under Part 3 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Aiding in the preparation of a terrorist act") for allegedly assisting a minor citizen of Ukraine in preparing a failed terrorist act.

In custody since April 22, 2016.
