Court releases two more political prisoners convicted in the Baymak mass unrest case
On 5 August, the Motovilikha District Court of Perm replaced the remainder of Danis Uzyanbayev and Aybulat Nigamatov’s prison sentences with non-custodial sentences. The development was reported by the Idel.Realii project.
The texts of the court rulings, specifying the exact sentences imposed on the residents of Bashkortostan and their duration, have not yet been published.
In February 2025, Aybulat Nigamatov was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of participating in mass unrest and using non-life-threatening violence against law enforcement officers. His sentence was reduced by three months on appeal. Danis Uzyanbayev was sentenced to four and a half years, while his mother, Saniya Uzyanbayeva, was sentenced to five years and five months. She remains in a penal colony.
We have recognised Danis Uzyanbayev, Aybulat Nigamatov and other participants in the Baymak protests who received custodial sentences under Part 2 of Article 212 and Part 1 of Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code as political prisoners.
According to Idel.Realii, at least 25 people convicted in connection with the Baymak case have now been released from penal colonies.
