Political prisoner Dmitry Lyamin sentenced to 17 years over conversations in penal colony
Political prisoner Dmitry Lyamin has been handed a second sentence in a case over inducing a fellow prisoner to join the Freedom of Russia Legion (LSR) and the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK). He was sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment, with the first five years to be served in prison, the Telegram-chanell Prison Lawyers reports.
Dmitry Lyamin was tried on charges of high treason (Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code) and inducement to terrorist activity (Article 205.1, Part 1.1 of the Russian Criminal Code). The prosecutor had sought a life sentence.
A criminal case was opened against Dmitry Lyamin while he was serving a sentence at Penal Colony No. 1 in Kostroma Oblast for the attempted arson of a military enlistment office. In February, it emerged that he was accused of having ‘repeatedly and on his own initiative engaged in conversation with fellow prisoner Razuvaev A. V., during which, through persuasion, repeated urging, suggestions and appeals to various values, he induced him to join the ranks of the LSR and RDK’. The case file contains five audio recordings of conversations between Dmitry Lyamin and other prisoners, including Razuvaev. The political prisoner said that these people approached him themselves and expressed a wish to join the LSR and RDK. The case was initially opened under the article on inducement to terrorist activity; the charge of high treason was added later.
On the night of 18–19 March 2022, Dmitry Lyamin threw three petrol bombs at the building of the military enlistment office in the town of Shuya, damaging an interior window and its frame. He was charged with committing an act of terrorism (Article 205, Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code) and denied having intended to commit an act of terrorism. In 2023, he was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment, with the first three years to be served in prison and the remainder in a high-security penal colony. He had already served the three years in prison before being transferred to the penal colony in Kostroma Oblast.
