Dmitry Lyamin, a worker from the city of Shuya in the Ivanovo oblast, was one of the first to express radical protest against Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On the night of March 19, 2022, he threw several Molotov cocktails at the city's military registration and enlistment office. He was detained that same day and initially charged with attempted intentional damage to property, but after the FSB intervened in the investigation, the charge was reclassified as an act of terrorism. The court sentenced him to eight years in prison. In February 2026, a new criminal case was opened against Lyamin, accusing him of aiding terrorist activity—he allegedly encouraged other convicted prisoners to join the Freedom of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps. Dmitry Lyamin faces life imprisonment. In July 2026, a third criminal case against Lyamin was announced – for treason. The details of the charges are unknown.
