Resident of occupied Chaplynka sentenced to 16 years on charges of cooperating with Ukrainian intelligence. His wife was previously sentenced to 12 years over donations to the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Volodymyr Hulchak, a resident of the Russian-occupied part of Kherson Oblast, has been sentenced to 16 years in a high-security penal colony on a charge of high treason (Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code), according to the ‘Kherson Oblast Prosecutor’s Office’ established by the Russian authorities.

The prosecution alleged that, in September 2023, Volodymyr Hulchak collected and passed information on the deployment of Russian military personnel and equipment to Ukrainian intelligence. In addition to the prison sentence, he was fined 350,000 roubles (≈€3,480).

Volodymyr’s wife, Olha Hulchak, was sentenced under the same article in 2025. She was accused of making several donations to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in August and September 2023. In a ‘confession’ video, she said she had transferred money around six times to an acquaintance from Chaplynka, knowing that the woman was collecting funds for the Ukrainian army. Olha Hulchak was sentenced to 12 years in a penal colony and fined 100,000 roubles (≈€995).

According to available information, the couple have three sons who remain at liberty. The eldest has reached adulthood and has become the legal guardian of his two younger brothers, who are still minors.
