Yukos case
The major Yukos case, in which more than 15 shareholders, employees and partners of the company were deprived of their liberty, became a symbol in the 2000s of the transition of power to the use of criminal repression as a regular tool for solving political, economic and propaganda tasks. Currently, the only prisoner remaining behind bars in the Yukos case is Alexei Pichugin, who is serving two life sentences based on falsified convictions.
